The Best Shoes to Wear in Italy & Greece: Both Stylish & Comfortable!
I’m getting ready to go on a belated honeymoon to Greece & Italy in a few months, and am getting so excited! We are going to be traveling for around 3 weeks, and packing only carry-ons. As a chronic overpacker and gal that usually checks a bag, this is a little stressful for me! So I’ve started planning out my outfits, packing list, and figuring out everything I need to bring and purchase in preparation for our trip. One of the trickiest things to figure out? Footwear.
Of course I knew I needed a comfy pair of tennis shoes (to be worn on the plane) but what else? What about sandals? How can I be comfy walking up hundreds of steps everyday, across rocky beaches, but also look cute and not ruin my outfits? I’ve done a TON of research, read all of the recommendations, and here is what I landed on. If you have a trip planned to Positano, the Amalfi Coast, or Greece this summer, hopefully this will be helpful for you!
01 | CHUNKY (BUT CUTE) SANDALS
Brown Pair | Black Pair
Honestly, you may only need a single pair of big chunky sandals like this, especially if you are pressed for space. But I fell in love with both of them, and knowing we’d be traveling for 3 weeks, I wanted to make sure I had all my neutrals covered. (I also will be taking over my husband’s suitcase too haha). I plan to style these with linen shorts, trousers, skirts, and dresses. They can work for both day and night depending on the style, and will be so comfortable!
These are both from an Australian/Bali sandal brand, called The Bali Tailor sandals. I recently discovered them and am SO obsessed with all of their styles! Something about Australian brands, they just know how to do summer clothing and accessories! The shipping is a little bit much (but worth it) and they do run flash sales, so just keep an eye out. I got these for 30% off! Keep in mind the prices on their website are also listed in AUD, so it’ll end up being a bit cheaper :) I was looking at Tony Bianco sandals at first, but was so glad to find these because they’re just a little more unique / lesser known.
02 | Cute & Comfy White Sneakers
Linked here. These will be worn on the plane, so I am not too worried about them weighing my suitcase down! One pair of shoes you absolutely need for your trip to Italy or Greece are a pair of cute, white, tennis shoes. These will be perfect to wear with most outfits during the day, and will be comfortable to walk around (and climb the many, many, steps in!)
03 | Water shoes for the rocky beaches
Linked here. When researching the best water shoes to wear in the Amalfi Coast and Greece, these were pretty much unanimously recommended. They are completely rubber and waterproof, so they’ll be great to wear on the rocky beaches. I also like having a lighter neutral so I have the option to also wear them around town. I was in between these and a pair from Reef, but I’m glad I went with the Tevas!
04 | Arizona Birkenstocks
Linked here. If I run out of space, these will probably be the first to go, but I’m hoping I can make them fit! You can’t go wrong with the Arizona Birkenstocks for walking through Positano. They are so comfortable, go with almost everything, and now they’re “trendy” again! There are so many new, cute, styles too if you want to go for a more stylish pair.
05 | Dressy, strappy sandals for the evening
Linked here. While the other shoes above will work for most things, there are a few nights we’ll go to fancier restaurants and I’ll be dressed up a bit more. And the chunky sandals or birkenstocks just won’t cut it here! I’m still deciding if this is the pair I will for sure go with, but I am planning on packing a lighter-weight, flat, sandal, that is strappy/more delicate than the others. I also like the metallic gold just for something different, and again to make the outfit feel more “dressy” while still being comfy!
